Barry Loines was born in Liverpool in 1960, spending most of his childhood dreaming of escaping to somewhere exotic on one of the many ships that regularly set off from the dock. Short of sailing to a faraway land, Barry’s imagination found outlet in painting and drawing.
At university Barry studied three-dimensional design, and after graduating started work as a furniture designer in Tring, Hertfordshire. His design practice then expanded to interiors, and he went on to start his own company designing and making all types of office furniture. One of Barry’s patented designs became very popular and he was finally able to realise his childhood dream of travelling all over the world following the design’s success. During this exciting time, it was his continued practice of painting that kept him grounded, and he stole a moment whenever he could to put brush to canvas.
Barry’s paintings cover a wide range of subjects, from landscapes to African wildlife, and alongside his successful design career he has enjoyed the opportunity to sell and exhibit much of his painted work throughout the years. Now, after three decades of prioritising his design work over painting, he has decided it is time to switch things up and see where a focus on the latter will take him.View Full Bio
