Claire is a creativity junky who falls asleep with new ideas filling her head and awakes in the morning with the passion to go and make them happen! âA day without creativity is a day not fully lived!â The love for drawing was inspired on her seventh birthday when her dad gifted her a sketchbook, pencils and rubber. From early on it became apparent that she was a bit of a perfectionist as the rubber diminished faster than the pencils. And Claire is still guilty of sticking two pages of a sketchbook together to hide the âmonstrosityâ she has created from critical eyes.
Studied art at Harrow College of Art, but with no clear sense of direction at the end of a yearâs foundation course, Claire kept art purely as a hobby for the next quarter of a century! My âcareerâ as a designer began after finding herself as a middle age divorcee. Having been a stay at home mum for over 10 years it was time for her to stand on her own two feet both emotionally and financially. She couldnât see herself working for someone else, so she pooled all her creative resources and after a couple of years of trial and error found her niche as a greeting card designer.
Her artwork reflects the fascination she has with anything vintage and predominantly old ephemera and vintage illustrations; in particular flowers, birds, butterflies and historic landmarks. She combines these with her own sketches and modern patterns where appropriate. Claire loves this fusion of old and new. Often she will simply give vintage greeting cards a lift with a saturation of colour to give them a contemporary feel, or she marries together different elements to create a collage effect. A lot of her artwork is client driven as she is always up for the challenge of creating something new. âIf a client puts that much faith in my abilities then I see it as my mission to push my boundaries to try and fulfil their wishes. After all without their belief I would not be where I am today or doing what I love.âView Full Bio
