Latest signings

We're pleased to announce that we've recently added new artist Fotini Tikkou to our rosters! Born in Athens and based in Copenhagen, Fotini creates charming composition featuring warm, sweet characters. We feel she'd be best for children's books. If you'd like to see more of her work, please visit her Advocate portfolio. In her own words:

"I was born in Athens, Greece in 1981.

When I was little all I wanted to do was draw. I would spent hours drawing on the pages of the books and magazines we had at home. When my parents told me that I should also learn how to read and write I would tell them to rest assured as I would do that in school. And even though I eventually learned how to read and write I was still really passionate about drawing throughout my entire childhood and adolescence. So, when the time came I felt like there was no other option for me than to apply for art school. And so I did.

I graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2009 and right after that, I landed my first job as a children’s books illustrator. In the years that followed I did some more books (along with regular day jobs to pay the rent), took a couple of MA degrees, travelled around and lived in different countries.

Today I live in Copenhagen with my partner and our little daughter.

Thankfully I no longer have to take regular day jobs as I work full-time as a freelance illustrator. I love both analog and digital drawing and painting but when I am using one technique I always end up missing the other one. So, I almost always end up using mixed media for my illustrations. I experiment with different materials from gouache and liquid watercolours to collage and stamping. The final image always ends up on my screen as a digital file.

My illustrations range from cute to weird and my style is changing all the time.

Most of the time I don’t really like my illustrations and I’m always looking for ways to improve my techniques and define my style, which can be very frustrating but also a great driving force that makes me want to become better and better.

If I wasn’t an illustrator I would love to be a food critic because I love eating but I don’t like cooking. Other than that I love reading books along with a hot cup of tea, hanging out with my friends and travelling."
