“Starting my design career as a small child, I have never been seen without my pencils and pens! After entering and winning several colouring competitions, growing up with a love of Beatrix Potter and Disney characters, a career in design was clearly the way forward. Colouring became an obsession, not forgetting the memories of colouring-in black and white illustrations in old children’s books, ooops – some Enid Blyton books spring to mind! I also enjoyed drawing my very own Disney characters and always dreamed of my character creations coming to life one day.

I followed my dream and gained a degree in Illustration at Falmouth University, Cornwall, graduating in 2003 and exhibited at New Designers, in London. Since then I took the leap into the commercial world of illustration and my work has been used on a variety of products, including greetings cards, stationery and children’s books. My work is diverse – I love the challenge of experimenting and developing new styles, rather than just sticking with one and I am always on the lookout for the latest trends.

Extremely passionate about creating traditional hand-painted and hand-drawn artwork, I use a combination of various traditional mediums, with a mixture of collage and working digitally. I would describe my work as bright, colourful, quirky, fun, whimsical and often cute. Living in rural Worcestershire where I grew up and continue to live, I draw inspiration from everything around me – from the stunning countryside, my extreme love for animals and nature, to children’s picture books, trends, pattern, all things pretty and of course, my passion for colour! Some of my characters are based on my old, beloved pets and other animals around me, with that loving feeling of making them whimsical and endearing.

When I am not busy illustrating, I love long country walks, water sports, beach walks, cycling, attending gigs, tea and cakes, playing the guitar and enjoy singing in my local choir. It is so exciting when I see my creations in print, or if a character finally comes to life and I find it incredibly rewarding to put a smile on a customer’s face. I feel so proud that my dream has become a reality – I adore my job and can’t imagine doing anything else!”
