Helen‘s BA Degree was in Craft Pottery at Staffordshire University, she continued on there to do an MA in Ceramic Design for Production which led her into a 12 year career as a surface pattern designer in Stoke-on-Trent. She‘s worked for industrial potteries such as Portmeirion and Emma Bridgewater where she designed the 'Polka Dots' and 'Hearts' ranges among others. There came a point when Helen felt she needed a new direction in life and relocated back home to Wiltshire with her partner. She started to design and sell greetings cards under the brand name 'Paper Garden' and approached Advocate Art to see if it‘s possible to licence the designs onto other products. Someone suggested to Helen that she would be suited to children's book illustration too, so she developed some samples for her portfolio and soon got some projects to work on. She loved illustrating the books so much, she decided to wind up her greetings card business as she spent more time doing accounts than drawing. Helen also loves creating puzzles and games and especially likes illustrating the natural world. She works from her studio at home where she lives with her partner and little girl. Apart from illustration she loves walking in the countryside around home, gardening and pottery.
