Artists Feature - Eva Morales Aug 08 2014

Meet the artists

Happy Friday! Have a look at excellent samples by Eva Morales above, our today's featured artist. We love the cinematic quality of her images - fun and dynamic, they look almost like stills from some action-packed film. Eva has a great eye for composition, superb character design skills and adds a great deal of humour to her illustrations, all this makes her a perfect choice for young fiction titles. Check out her online portfolio here! I was born in Mataró, 30km from Barcelona, between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. I grew up and I’m still living in the same city where I was born. I've been drawing ever since I can remember. I have two older sisters, one is a painter and the other one is a musician, so art and crafts were very normal at home when I was a child. But then, in the 1990’s, a local TV issued various TV series of Akira Toriyama, from that very moment I knew that I wanted to work in animation world. I studied Fine Arts at UB, University of Barcelona. But I’m self-taught when it comes to digital painting. My personal motivation is to experiment and improve my digital art, and be able to publish my work with great illustrators like Jason Chan or Paul Bonner in mind. My inspiration is: Studio Ghibli: Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Ponyo, … and Disney animators and cartoonists like Chris Sanders, Don Bluth and Glen Keane. My artwork is a mix between cartoon style and realistic. I have been influenced by Disney’s illustrators and realistic painters. My main skills are in the field of character design, props, backgrounds and digital painting for children’s and young stories. The fact that I use a very different techniques and styles (traditional ones and also digital) makes me a very versatile artist. I consider myself a person with a lot of creativity, imagination and with the ability to solve visual problems and make decisions.
