Meet the artists

Our featured artist today is the lovely Lucy Barnard! Lucy is a fantastic illustrator who creates beautiful pieces for lots of different uses. From adorable animal characters for children's book publications to unique designs for greeting cards and sublime artwork for art licensing - a woman of many talents it would seem! See lots more of Lucy's work at her online portfolio!

My Grandmother was a fantastic influence for me, a real character and very inspirational. She attended the Slade School of Art when she was young and had many tales to tell. My mum and my sisters are also very creative.

I did A level art and an Art Foundation course in Cheltenham and then a degree in Illustration in Exeter.

No one specific thing drives me, I think I am just a creative person and get inspiration from many people and places all around me. My work is all done by hand starting with sketches and then using oil or acrylic and often finished with coloured pencils.

I feel that I still have a lot to learn and that my art will develop and grow as I gain more experience. I’d like to experiment with using the computer as another tool and hope to start some bigger paintings on canvas too – scaling up as most of my work is on a smaller scale at the moment.
