Hello! My name is Victoria, I am a British illustrator living and working in Italy. Before deciding to become an illustrator I worked for 7 years as a freelance conservator and restorer in the UK. Freelancing as a restorer was proving to be quite unpredictable and I needed another string to my bow so I started to illustrate alongside my 'day job' as a restorer.
I have had absolutely no formal training as an illustrator but with Advocate's guidance and patience and a lot of hard work I managed to carve a niche for myself within the greeting card world and I now work frequently for all the biggest card clients. It's varied and fun work and best of all it affords me a freedom that is almost impossible in other careers, you can be anywhere in the whole world!! And that's why I'm in Italy.
In December 2013, on a whim, I packed my backpack and moved over not knowing a single soul. I lived for 6 months in Florence and then moved out to the relative peace of the countryside. I now speak Italian fluently and have plans to move on to other countries and other languages.
Living in another country can make it difficult to keep up with current trends so I frequently make trips back to the UK to touch base with clients and to have a really good look in the shops and generally mooch about to see how fashions and trends are developing. Another great resource that I use daily is Pinterest.
I would describe my work as detailed and traditional but with a modern twist. When I work I am fast, pragmatic and unsentimental I aim to create designs that are ever evolving and I try to improve all the time to ensure I'm providing a high quality, striking product for my clients.
