Artist feature - Alice Wong Jan 15 2016

Latest signings

Today’s feature is one of our newly signed artists, Alice Wong. We love the colour palette she uses to create her atmospheric pieces and dreamy characters. Her illustrations would work brilliantly for picture books. Don't miss her portfolio on Advocate Art's website!

"Hello, my name is Alice and I was born in Cardiff in 1984. I grew up on a lovely little coastal town called Penarth just outside Cardiff in south Wales. I now live in Market Harborough, another little town outside of Leicester with my husband and two kitties.

I have always been creative and wanted to draw as long as I can remember, but my early drawings that hung on my nans wall with pride don't look so impressive all these years later! If I had to describe my work I would say it was quirky, cute, dreamy and influenced by Japanese Kawaii style. I am a real nature lover and animals are the feature in most of my work.

I studied illustration in Swansea Institute of Art and Design. My favourite medium to paint is in watercolour but I really just love to draw with my trusty 0.3mm mechanical pencil! I love to paint on wood and other natural surfaces as well as dabbling in photoshop a little to really bring my creations to life!

I have recently started going to ceramic classes which I am enjoying so so much and think it will be featured in my work a lot from now on. I also really love yoga and curling up on the sofa with a good film and my two lovely cats, Pierre and Baloo. I find it hard to pick a favourite film, but my all time favourite tv series is Lost. When I am working I love nothing more than to listen to a good audiobook, be it a romantic comedy, mystery or scary story by Stephen King.

If I wasn't an illustrator I would definitely love to work with animals, I would love to work in a zoo or travel the world trying to hep endangered or sick animals. One of my life goals is to some day visit the Chengdu Panda Sactuary in China and look after a little baby panda!

I really hope you enjoy looking at my work as much as I enjoyed creating it!"
