'The Best Woodland Book of the Year' - Claire McElfatrick Jan 30 2020Samples and spotted
We are delighted to announce that Claire McElfatrick’s, The Magic and Mystery of Trees has won a Woodland’s Award for ’The Best Woodland Book of the Year' 2019. Published by Dorling Kindersley in association with the Royal Horticultural Society, the children's non-fiction book has been described as ‘Wonderful’ and set ‘To inspire a generation to love, protect and respect trees!’
Growing up in Buckinghamshire Claire spent her youth painting, surrounded by the beautiful English countryside. Now living in rural Northamptonshire she’s still using the world around her as inspiration; particularly it’s colours, patterns and textures. It’s no wonder then that these influences have made deep roots into her practise and lead to her being the perfect match for, The Magic and Mystery of Trees!
Specifically designed as a children’s book (ages 6–12), The Magic and Mystery of Trees delves into the lives of trees from around the globe. Text from Jen Green creates an informative, comprehensive read packed with facts but it is Claire’s illustrations that really shine. Her beautiful illustrations mix photography, digital and traditional media to create beautiful textured environments and colourful, eye catchings pages that ‘bring this lavish book alive’.
‘This book is a must read for our future generations!’
Not stopping there Claire has once again teamed up with DK to work on a new non-fiction children’s title…The Book of Brilliant Bugs! This new title will be released in March (on the 5th to be precise!) and is full of wonderful and unusual facts about bugs! Written by the fabulous Jess French who not only is a nature loving author and vet but has also presented her own TV show on CBeebies all about bugs! Claire’s illustration are once again the backbone of the book, at once both beautiful and informative and are something Claire and the team at Advocate Art can’t wait to show you all!
‘With our world being in so much danger, now is a crucial time to get the message across to all generations about the importance of our natural world and species that inhabit it. I hope that families will share and enjoy the books in this DK series and be inspired to help protect our beautiful planet.’ - Claire McElfatrick
