Artist Feature - Beatriz Castro Aug 16 2023
Meet the artistsThis month Advocate Art is highlighting Beatriz Castro, one of our author/illustrators who has been writing and drawing stories since she was young.
Beatriz Castro was born in Logroño, La Rioja, Spain. When she was a little girl, she was always drawing and writing fantastical stories. As she grew up, so did her passion and she decided to study at the school of arts in her native town, Logroño. After graduating with a degree in Illustration in 2008, she embarked on a career as a professional illustrator. Since then Beatriz’s illustrations have appeared in textbooks, illustrated books, and on covers with some of the largest publishing houses around the world.
Today she still lives in Logroño with her husband, their three dogs, and two birds. She loves her work and being able to draw for a living.
“I really like my work, drawing, and when I have time I also like to write stories. I love making colourful images and funny character designs. In my free time, I love to travel and read mystery novels. I like animals and books, classic stories and fairy tales, and listening to rock and punk music.”
Her colorful, fun characters have been published all over the world. With her long list of publications, one, in particular, stands out to her. She considers Los Tesoros de Joel, published by Astronave, her most important title because she both wrote and illustrated it.
“I really enjoy writing stories. I thought of the idea of the importance of taking care of our planet so I wrote a story about this theme. Then I organized the illustrations according to the text. Always highlighting the drawings.”
We are thrilled to see Beatriz succeeding in both writing and illustrating. All of us at Advocate Art will continue to support her in her creative passions!
