Mel was born and raised in Wellington, New Zealand. At the tender age of 16, she moved to Melbourne, Australia, on her own to train at the Australian Ballet School after winning a ballet scholarship. With her ballet days behind her, she continued her creative career as an actress and also worked as a web and graphic designer in Sydney, after completing an IT degree at university. Her love for art developed after studying graphic design and she was quick to realise, after always putting her hand up to do the ‘pretty graphics’ for websites, that she needed to develop her passion for drawing, illustration and pattern design. She now lives in the beautiful Southern Highlands, just 1 hour out of Sydney, with her partner, their son, daughter, dog and cat. Mel specialises in surface pattern design and children’s illustration/art. She describes her style as quirky, fun, colourful and whimsical.
