Paula Doherty

I'm available! I'd love to hear about your project.
Paula Doherty was born and grew up in London and now live in Reigate, Surrey, with a son, a dog and a cog (cat that thinks it’s a dog) She began drawing from a very early age inspired by childhood holidays to Devon, Cornwall and The Isle of Wight with their rich history of myths and legends and bloodthirsty tales of smuggling and piracy on the high seas. Paula studied Illustration and Graphic Design at Chelsea School of Art and is a freelance Illustrator, Paper Cutter and fledgling Paper Engineer. She started illustrating Children’s books when her son was very small, often making up and illustrating stories for him about Jack after he’d killed the giant and chopped down the beanstalk. She works in a variety of mediums depending on the work at hand. Book illustration usually starts with a sketch which is scanned and finished in Photoshop. Paper Cutting requires just her and her trusty scalpel, and Paper Engineering can involve a combination of the two. She has designed award-winning Greeting card ranges both in the UK and the US and also dabbled in soft toy design which is something she would like to continue in the future. She has also illustrated a number of pop-up books and her dream would be to write, design and illustrate a pop-up book of her own. She likes travel, walking the dog and wine, not necessarily in that orderView Full Bio
