Artist Feature Silvia Castro Jun 17 2014

Here at Advocate Art, we love our range of cute children’s book illustrators. Today’s artist feature is Silvia Castro. Her cute, rounded characters really lend themselves well to both children’s book illustration and greeting cards. We love her use of subtle detail and flat colour, with elements of considered textures in her illustrations. Take a look at more of her work here at her online folio. Hello! My name is Silvia Castro and I'm from Valencia (Spain). I've always loved drawing. Therefore, since I was a child I knew that one day I would study something related to it. I'm graduated in Fine Arts from Polytechnic University of Valencia where I discovered that I loved making illustrations, mainly children's illustrations. Then I realized that my true style was inspired by the kawaii world. Until that time I had used traditional techniques like colored pencils, acrylics and watercolors. Afterwards, I started to be interested in digital techniques and I studied a graphic design Master  and since then I work almost all of my illustrations with vectors. Also attracted to teaching, I studied a teaching Master specializing in art subjects in Valencia University. I also belong to the Professional Association of Illustrators of Valencia(APIV). I have done several group exhibitions and three individual exhibitions last year. I combine my illustrations with handcrafts that I also sell. My inspiration are the dolls, plushes, pets(currently I have a chinchilla and a parrot although I always wanted a puppy), music, other kawaii illustrators and generally everything cute.
