I’m Antonia Diamandescu, an illustrator from Bucharest, Romania, recently graduated from the MA in Children’s Books Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art, UK. My work is detailed, bright, and playful. It has a strong risoprint influence that I love recreating digitally in Photoshop through layered colour and slightly imperfect textures. I’m drawn to character-led worlds, atmospheric storytelling, and gentle themes like kindness, inclusion, and caring for others.

I graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from the National University of Arts in Bucharest before continuing my studies at Cambridge School of Art, where I focused on picture books. So far, I’ve taken part in the Children’s Books Illustration MA Graduation Exhibition in London, where my dummy picture book A Day in Plushville was also seen and appreciated by several publishing houses at a private viewing. I’m known for being collaborative, open to feedback, detail-focused, and quick to respond. I love building immersive worlds and authentic character interactions, and my process usually begins with a moodboard before moving into character studies or rough storyboards, always drawing everything myself.

A lot of what inspires me comes from the comforting, detail-rich things I’ve loved since childhood. Growing up in Romania, many Western picture book classics weren’t easily available, but my mother introduced me to stories like Peter Rabbit and Brambly Hedge by translating them for me, which sparked my fascination with children’s books and storytelling. Brambly Hedge remains a huge influence on me, alongside unexpected sources like Webkinz, movies, social media, comics, and the books I collect. On quiet Sundays, I love being at home with my partner, watching films, playing video games, or cooking together, usually with our rescue cat and dog nearby.
