Hi, I'm Andy Rowland, a freelance illustrator based in Manchester, UK, with over two decades of experience crafting captivating visuals for children's books, community arts, murals, and designs. I've collaborated with many renowned publishers and I am part of an artist studio called Two Crows, a creative space offering workshops and opportunity for collaborations across different creative mediums. I get to play my guitar and paint, sometimes both at the same time!
I can illustrate a diverse range of subjects, from people and animals to anthropomorphic creatures, dinosaurs, space, and landscapes. I maintaining consistency in characters and settings, ensuring timely project completion through effective client communication. A I studied illustration at Manchester Met Uni, where i won the prestigious Macmillan prize during my second year for a children's book's design, writing, and illustration, from there I was approached by an agent and the rest is history.
Combining humor, individuality, and compelling characters in my work, I strive to foster inclusivity and unity in a world that sometimes overlooks these essential values. Sketching plays a vital role in my creative process, whether I'm capturing moments in the bustling streets, cafes, or from the comfort of my campervan turned mobile studio. Beginning each project with a hand-drawn image, I like to keep the tactile connection between pen and paper, culminating in digitally refined artworks that blend traditional aesthetics with a contemporary twist, enriching my creations with a timeless appeal.
