Introducing: Jessie Fitzgerald! Nov 19 2024
Meet the agentsJessie grew up surrounded by the towering trees of Oregon’s forests, a setting that has deeply inspired her art and upbringing. From a young age, she was passionate about drawing and creating imaginative worlds, especially for children’s stories. Jessie went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Animation and an Associate’s in Multimedia Arts, then honed her skills through freelance work, becoming a published author-illustrator, and even some time with the Walt Disney Company.
Jessie joined Advocate back in September, 2024, and today she shares a bit about her journey and what she’s excited to bring to the role:
What led you to become an illustration agent?
After several years in the world of animation and freelance illustration, I wanted to bring my storytelling and creative experience to a role where I could help other artists thrive. Being an agent lets me support illustrators in bringing their professional goals to life, while also working with clients to help them achieve exactly what they envision. It is satisfying and rewarding work!
Tell us a little about your history in the illustration world…
I started my journey as an author-illustrator, creating whimsical animal stories and artwork for children. Over the years, I’ve freelanced in animation and graphic design, developing a range of work that includes animated shorts, digital art, and picture books. My experience at Disney and years in freelance have taught me the importance of a solid story and how art can truly connect with people.
What do you love most about the role?
I love the blend of creativity and strategy—helping artists navigate their careers while also guiding clients to artists who’ll make their ideas shine. There's something wonderful about helping an artist find their dream project or a client find the perfect creative partner!
What do you hope to accomplish here at Advocate?
My goal is to support both sides in creating projects that are meaningful and engaging, especially those that share a bit of magic and empathy with the world.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
When I’m not working, I love to explore Oregon with my family, go thrift and antique shopping, and create new picture books as an author-illustrator. I also love reading in general and have a stack of fantasy and sci-fi books I am currently working through!
