Hey there! I’m Lu, an illustrator from the vibrant city of Quito, Ecuador, where the cool weather and hot summers fuel my creative spirit. My artwork is a colorful blend of emotion and creativity, inspired by everyday moments and character design - with a touch of sci-fi, mystery, and horror. Drawing mostly on my iPad, I love infusing my digital work with textures for that tactile feel that makes my characters pop!
Collaborating with international publishers has been a dream, allowing me to work on diverse projects like educational book illustrations for Oxford University Press and character design for Rebel Girls. I take pride in my ability to create warm, relatable characters inspired by real people, a skill that clients appreciate for its reliability and distinctive style. From vibrant children’s books to detailed graphic novels, I adapt my art seamlessly, always ensuring the final product exceeds expectations.
Beyond art, I draw inspiration from my multicultural Latin American upbringing, a strong sense of community, and my feminist values. When I’m not illustrating, you’ll find me immersed in video games, Gorillaz tunes, and animated films. Sundays are my sanctuary, spent with my husband and three rescued cats - Berlín, Pepe, and Jiji. I aspire to be remembered not just for my art but for my empathy and sincerity, always striving to make the world a little brighter through creativity and compassion.
