Hello, my name is Holly Bushnell, and I live in a seaside town in Liverpool, UK - hometown of The Beatles and two major football clubs. My art style is a vibrant blend of colourful and cute. I create my illustrations digitally. Known for my distinctive work, I love experimenting with layering and textures, including extra details to engage young minds. My work has been described as 'little pieces of happy' by Cathy Cassidy, a renowned children's author. My passion for animals, nature, and the environment shines brightly in my creations. I also enjoy making illustrations inspired by history, magic, and little moments taken out of everyday life.
My main achievements are working on two book series' – the first being 'Peek-A-Bo,' a heart-warming board book collection featuring a lovable puppy called Bo, published by New York Publisher, Peter Pauper Press. The second series is a fresh take on Enid Blyton's 'The Secret Seven', published by Franklin Watts and Wayland. It was wonderful to illustrate seasonal themes across 'Peek-A-Bo', and to have the opportunity to re-imagine Enid Blyton's characters as my own. Client feedback praising the beauty and expressiveness of my art fuels my creative drive. While primarily self-taught, pursuing a master's degree in Illustration during the pandemic helped take my illustrative career to the next level.
Inspired by childhood memories of books I read growing up, and driven by an appreciation for music, nature, animals, history and fantastical worlds, I aim to create unique, memorable and entertaining children's books.
