Hi there! I'm Jon Davis, a London-born artist whose work blends traditional and realistic styles with a playful twist of comics and cartoons. Growing up in the vibrant neighbourhoods from Virginia Water to Richmond, and later Edinburgh, I draw inspiration from the rich music, film and TV history of the area. With a knack for infusing humour into my illustrations, I aim to capture lively expressions and gestures that resonate with clients. Using Photoshop and a Wacom tablet, I strive to give my art a classic pencil or watercolour feel while embracing the speed and flexibility digital tools offer.
In my artistic journey, I've had some exciting milestones. From illustrating the Smarties Book prize-shortlisted "Just Ferret" to winning the GANYC Apple award for "The Knish War of Rivington Street," my creations have found recognition. Having my cartoons featured in The Guardian was a proud moment, but my heart truly lies in collaborating on projects like the Ginger Green Playdate Queen books in Australia. Working closely with writers and publishers, I bring characters to life across various age groups, infusing every detail with humor and charm.
Beyond the artistry, my creative spirit grew from memories of my Grandma's paintings and the endless wonder of childhood drawings. Whether exploring the countryside, admiring art exhibitions, or simply unwinding with a good book or film, I cherish the simple joys that fuel my imagination. As a proud father, I strive to create work that not only brings joy but also resonates as meaningful and enjoyable. With a passion for storytelling and a dash of quirky flair, I continue to weave magic through my art, one expressive character at a time.
'The Knish War On Rivington Street', illustrated by me and published by Albert Whitman won the GANYC Apple Award. 'Just Ferret' by Gene Kemp, illustrated by me and published by Faber & Faber was shortlisted for the Smarties Prize. LINK - https://www.ganyc.org/2018-ganyc-apple-awards
