Hello there! I'm Madison LaRose, originally from Rhode Island, USA, and currently calling London home. I specialize in thoughtful illustrations that are all about playfulness, imbued with soft textures, lively characters, and a comfortable warmth that's both contemporary and everlasting. I primarily work in Adobe Photoshop, venturing into Adobe Illustrator for more vector-based projects. What sets my work apart? Well, it's a signature mix of imaginative artistry and design know-how. As an industry vet with a background in children’s book design and illustration, I approach each artwork with a confident grasp on storytelling, production, and market needs. And when I'm not drawing? You'll find me running, rock climbing, and traveling. My disciplined, problem-solving, and adventurous spirit don’t just mirror my personal pursuits-they also shape my creative process.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to notch some high-profile accolades while crafting my career. I made the 2021 Brightness Magazine’s Friendship Contest shortlist, and the 2020 AOI's World Illustration Rewards longlist for Children's Publishing-plus, I was a student runner-up in the 2018 Creative Quarterly and a scholarship winner at the AKF Group in 2017. I’ve also flashed my work at group exhibitions, including the 2021 and 2019 MassArt Auctions and a 2020 group exhibition at France's Institute for Scotland, Alive. Orthodoxy doesn't define my creative journey. Take for instance the Dinosaur Sticker book I got to work on, my current favorite, which pushed me to visually flip typical expectations with humor and character. Professionalism and friendliness are my work staples, traits that my clients consistently underscore-along with an appreciated knack for extending my versatile, playful style across a gamut of products. All these achievements have been shepherded by a mix of academic rigor and passion- having earned a BFA in Illustration at the Massachusetts College Of Art in 2018 and further honing my craft with an MFA in Illustration at the Edinburgh College Of Art in 2020.
What fuels my illustrations, you ask? It's all about channeling my childhood into my work. The discipline from sports, fascination with cute stationery, nostalgia from camping experiences and imaginative play, and even an affection for 90s tech all find a way to inspire the engaging, whimsical quality of my work. On challenging days, I've found a refuge in running, a pause that helps me reassess and plan. Traveling and photography are also rich sources of inspiration for me. Even quiet outdoor time with my partner or a good read often ripples into my art. I hope to leave behind a legacy as an inspiring artist as much as a mentor to other creatives in the field. It's a comforting dream to imagine cherished ones growing up with stories nestled in books I've helped bring to life, creating a legacy that's rich with warmth and meaningful memories.
