Hi there! I'm Maïté Schmitt, a mixed media artist from the region of Alsace, nestled next to the German border in France. My creative work is a fusion of digital techniques and traditional elements.
I owe much of my artistic mastery to my academic journey, during which I studied 2D animation in France and later in Germany. Intricate character design, coupled with carefully placed humorous details, is my specialty. My creative process usually begins with extensive sketching to really get to know the characters and their worlds. I often draw on paper, scan those pieces to maintain a hand-drawn texture, and then color digitally with brushes that mimic traditional art tools like pencils and pastels.
Aside from my love for art, I am quite the animal lover, sharing my home with three faithful dogs and a family of curious cats. These furry companions have a massive influence on my work, often inspiring the characters and scenarios I illustrate. Sundays are typically reserved for rest, relaxation, and long strolls with my canine crew. Alternatively, you'll find me wandering in a local bookstore or museum, seeking inspiration amongst the aisles brimming with literature and displays of timeless art.
