Hi, I'm Max Rambaldi. I was born between the otherworldly waters of Venice and the fog of Padova. I draw 100% digital, but I love to keep the freshness of traditional media with my brushes. I have a few styles I’m loyal to, but I’m a good imitator: useful to help other artists or follow style requests. As a kid I used to build airplane models and run experiments with my grandpa, surrounded by cats. Probably the source of my love for space and science. As someone who is neurodivergent, I like to include as many differences as possible in my drawings, especially prosthetics, which I love, as natural, everyday aspects of life.
My pride is a long collab with a huge tabletop RPG project in Italy. As a board game player, it was the perfect mix between illustration and motion graphics. I’d be thrilled to work again on small animations. I think I’m good at understanding what people want, even when they come up with tangled descriptions, and clients often appreciate the extra details I add - things not briefed that I pick up from their stories. I don’t see my artworks as untouchable “children,” so I have no problem reworking things - it’s the project as a whole that matters to me. As former graphic designer, I'm good with composition and I often handle book layouts myself. Lastly, I think I have a odd sense of humor: some of my favorite clients, the ones who truly fell in love with my work, happened to write funny books.
When I was little I read Monsters by Quentin Blake. I think that was the first spark of love for this job. I devour games and sci-fi movies, I guess I’m a bit of a Borg constantly assimilating bits of other creators. In an ideal world, I’d spend more time in nature. I love doing things with my hands, especially when they have a ritualistic feel like craving stones. I’m infinitely slow, and paradoxically, taking my time makes me more productive! Over the years I’ve built a wonderful community through YouTube, where I use to talk about the hidden sides of being a freelance. I’ve helped lots of kids get through burnout and find their way; many of them call me Mom, so in a way I think I’ve my legacy. Plus I've Gandalf, a cat who thinks he can fly to chase bats and is my joy even with the rain..
