Hello there, I'm Michael Buxton, hailing from the tiny village of Stanion in the East Midlands. My general artistic vibe? Think bold colors, quirky characters, and sometimes a dash of dark humor thrown in for good measure. Starting with classic pen and ink, I work up my creations digitally, but always aiming for that special hand-drawn charm. My work is a weirdo blend of cute characters and snappy designs, perfect for grabbing attention.
My creative journey has been pretty eventful. Starting with working in the greeting card industry, to winning a bunch of t-shirt design contests and snagging the Booksellers Book of the Month title for my book Count Derek. I've been lucky enough to work with publishers like Hatchette and Kane Miller, and recently I've dipped my toes into writing and illustrating kids' graphic novels with Arcturus. Collaborative and easy-going, I'm all about crafting fun characters or concocting terrible jokes for my narratives.
Growing up with a penchant for old monster movies and a love for comics like Calvin and Hobbes, my art reflects a blend of quirky charm and offbeat humor. Drawing inspiration from my travels, and my two feline muses at home, my work is a mix of eclectic influences. When not immersed in art, you can catch me unwinding with a movie, indulging in some gaming, or whipping up a storm in the kitchen. Ultimately, I aim to spread joy through my art, making folks laugh or, at the very least, do that little nose exhale.
