Hi, my name is Sofie. I grew up in San Francisco, California, where attending a bilingual school opened my curiosity for foreign lands. By the time I finished my BFA, I was ready to live abroad, and I bounced from France to Berlin, India, Africa, and finally San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where I now reside. My work has been described as “perfectly imperfect,” with a whimsical, joyful energy that aims to take readers on a ride through illustrations and infographics that share knowledge and spark curiosity.

Over the years, I’ve traveled as I worked, carrying my supplies on my back to far corners of the world, including Antarctica, and taking part in art residencies on several continents. I received my BFA from UC Santa Cruz, including a year abroad in Paris and Bordeaux, where I studied architecture, art history, and language. Since beginning my illustration career around 2013, I’ve participated in many group shows and exhibitions, and in 2019 my children’s book Dino Does Yoga was published with North Atlantic Books and distributed by Penguin Random House. In 2020 I was awarded a Maurice Sendak illustration relief award, and more recently my poster work was recognized by the Ecuador Poster Exhibition in 2024 and Cairopolitan in 2025. I’m known for my linework, and clients value that I’m reliable, fast, creative, and easy to collaborate with. I always begin with pencil sketches before moving into digital illustration and color.

As a child, I was deeply influenced by Dr. Seuss and later fell in love with Moebius through comic books; both continue to shape the whimsical and imaginative spirit of my work. I love visiting museums and libraries for inspiration, and a good sunset hike always helps too. On Sunday afternoons, I facilitate a life drawing class that feels like my version of church. After about four years of running it, it has grown into a wonderful community of artists and novices who gather weekly to draw from life. At heart, I want to make books that spark the imagination of young minds and encourage youth to explore the world. I also share life with my cat, Mamito, who thinks he’s a dog and joins me on sunset hikes.
