Hey there! I'm Valerya Milovanova, an illustrator originally from Moscow, Russia, now happily based in London. My passion lies in creating enchanting illustrations that blend traditional techniques like ink, watercolor, and charcoal with digital media. Inspired by history and nature, I infuse my work with heartwarming stories and inviting textures. As a Visiting Lecturer in Illustration at the University of Hertfordshire, my practice also extends to screenprinting, monoprinting, and RISO, and I often offer my unique prints for sale
My creative journey has led me to exciting milestones, including being shortlisted for prestigious awards like the Batsford Prize, Unpublished Picturebook Showcase and Good Housekeeping's Kids' Book Awards. I've showcased my talent at renowned events such as the Bologna Children's Book Fair, London Illustration Fairs, and more. One of my proudest achievements is the publication of "La Baignoire Magique" by Éditions Sarbacane, where I had the delightful opportunity to craft magical compositions and characters. With a background in Graphic Design, I excel in character interaction, playful compositions, lettering, and a warm colour palette that brings stories to life.
Drawing has been my lifelong passion, nurtured through years of art school and a deep love for nature, museums, and exploring the vibrant streets of London. When I'm not creating captivating illustrations, you can find me enjoying a leisurely bike ride through the park, soaking up inspiration from the world around me. My artistic journey is a reflection of my dedication to storytelling and my commitment to infusing every piece with warmth, charm, and a touch of magic.
