Hi, I'm JiaJia Hamner, an artist born in Beijing, raised in Canada, and now residing in Hawaii. My art style blends realism with a touch of whimsical cartoon, creating a unique fusion. Drawing inspiration from my scientific background, I strive to weave scientific concepts into my artwork, alongside elements of traditional Chinese culture, whenever appropriate. With a passion for gardening and fostering biodiversity, I support sustainable practices while nurturing my backyard kitchen garden. Embracing a hands-on approach, I explore the wonders of our natural world and strive to instill a love for math and science in young minds.

One of the first books I had the pleasure of illustrating, "The Poetical Institute's Peculiar Powers of Vegetables & Fruits," was awarded First Place in the Children's Poetry Books category at the 2020 Royal Dragonfly Book Awards (Story Monsters). In a recent work titled "Ling and the Queen," I enthusiastically imbued my native culture's essence to impart the value of honesty to young readers. Clients appreciate the emotional depth in my characters, praising the vibrant colors and intricate details that bring narratives to life. With a background in Graphic Design, traditional Chinese painting, and a PhD in physics, my expertise spans across various disciplines, enriching my artistic endeavors.

My artistic journey began with childhood visits to zoos, historic sites, and a fascination with Asian motifs, later drawing inspiration from manga and anime. I find solitude to be my creative haven, generating ideas during serene morning moments or amidst the tranquility of nature. When not engrossed in art, I find solace in gardening, exploring nature, and caring for the eight feline companions that brighten my days.
