Hi, I'm Lisa Powell Braun, a New Jersey native now residing in the suburbs of Philadelphia. My artistic realm spans graphic design, watercolor painting, illustration, hand lettering, and surface pattern design. My passion in illustration lies in merging watercolor and digital techniques to develop unique, textural designs. Based on my experience as an art director, I excel in understanding and illustrating clients' visions with a style that fits a wide array of interpretations. Inspired by the natural world, I often find myself capturing the essence of flowers and landscapes in my work, be it professionally or while pursuing watercolor painting as a hobby and for private commissions.
In my professional journey, I've been recognized with the 2022 Eureka! Non Fiction Award (California Reading Assoc.) and the 2023 Beatty Award (California Library Assoc.) for my illustrations in "Wake, Sleepy One". This book was the product of collaboration between author and editors, while the accuracy of the illustrations of plants and animals was verified by the park service. Clients appreciate that I meet deadlines, have the ability to envision their aspirations, and also the vibrant colors and textured richness in my work. My artistic training includes a BFA from Syracuse University and an AAS from Parsons School of Design. My experience includes having been a creative director for both textile and graphic design. For every project, I immerse myself in sketches, character studies, and color schemes ensuring a narrative flow in the story I'm tasked to illustrate.
I've been drawing and painting since as long as I can remember. A transformative summer as a teenager at the Rhode Island School of Design marked the beginning of my journey to embrace art as a profession. In my free time, I like to hike, travel, and tend to my pollinator garden. I enjoy exploring bookstores in search of art and design literature to expand my horizons. As a mother of two grown children, I hope to be remembered as a caring mother and kind-hearted person.
