Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m based in Vienna, Austria, where I work as a freelance illustrator. I think the most defining thing about my approach is that whenever I have some downtime between gigs, I focus on ‘passion projects’ that reflect the kind of work I actually want to get hired for.

It’s a strategy that has really paid off. For example, I recently finished a mural series centered around the different nationalities living in Vienna, and I landed a mural commission almost immediately after publishing it. Before that, I created an illustration series featuring the world’s most famous markets; a few weeks later, The Washington Post reached out to me to illustrate a series on America’s most iconic restaurants for their Food section.
